Recent data from the Texas Water Development Board and the U.S. Drought Monitor show that Polk and San Jacinto counties, along with much of Texas, have been under persistent drought conditions throughout 2026. As of early April, the state has experienced more than three consecutive months of drought, with conditions steadily expanding since January. Nearly 90% of Texas is currently affected, including moderate to severe drought across Southeast Texas.
