A 26-year-old Conroe man who stabbed his common-law wife in the presence of their two small daughters was sentenced to life last week. Before jurors in Presiding Judge Phil Grant’s 9th District Court, Lirio Maldonado Jr., 26, pleaded guilty Thursday to murder in the 2019 death of 20-year-old Cassandra Benitez. After a three-day punishment trial and following 40 minutes of deliberation, jurors handed Maldonado a life sentence, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
