Texas cities on the list of those with highest property tax burdens

TEXAS — According to a report from SmartAsset.com, Texas in 2025 made up 20% of the top 20 cities with the highest property tax burden in the country. Edinburg, Georgetown, Conroe and Grand Prairie are all on the list, each coming in at over 5% of taxes related to total income. Topping the list is Paterson, N.J., where that number is nearly 10% and where residents pay a median of $9,779 in yearly property tax.
