BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Several Sam Houston Bearkats were recognized Monday when Conference USA announced its men’s and women’s basketball postseason awards. Head coach Chris Mudge was named Gene Bartow Co-Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Liberty’s Richie McKay. Mudge guided the Bearkats through one of the biggest turnarounds in CUSA this season. Sam Houston finished 13-7 and second in the league standings after beginning conference play 0-3. The Bearkats had been picked to finish ninth in the preseason poll following a 6-12 league record a year ago. In conference play, Sam Houston leads CUSA in scoring (79.7 points per game), scoring margin (4.8), rebound margin (4.7) and team rebounding (38.1).
