THE WOODLANDS, Texas – A fire broke out early Friday morning at an abandoned building on Sawdust Road, previously used as a pet boarding facility. The Woodlands Fire Department, along with several other local departments, responded to the scene. At 1:06 a.m., The Woodlands Fire Department was dispatched to assist the Timber Lakes Volunteer Fire Department with the reported structure fire at 1625 Sawdust Road. Upon arrival, Engine 103 observed heavy fire, prompting Battalion 101 to assume command and declare a defensive fire, according to a press release from The Woodlands Fire Department. Firefighters utilized master streams and ground monitors to combat the blaze from the outside. Early into the firefight, a partial building collapse occurred, leading to a second alarm that brought a total of 20 trucks and over 50 firefighters to the scene. The fire was declared under control shortly after 2 a.m., and most units were released, though crews remained to extinguish hot spots.
