TRIO RUN CAR INTO AUTO ELECTRIC BUSINESS AND FLEE ON FOOT

Just before midnight, East Montgomery County Firefighters were dispatched to Live Oak at Sweet Gum for a reported auto that had crashed into a building. Units arrived on the scene along with Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Precinct 4 Constables. They found the vehicle parked completely inside the building causing severe structural damage. A witness said two males and a female crawled out of the building and fled on foot once they found out the police had been called. Moments later a call came into Montgomery County Dispatchers in reference to vehicle theft. The vehicle described was the same vehicle inside the building. A Precinct 4 Deputy responded to the location where the reported theft originated. There he found the three suspects. The owner of the vehicle admitted to allowing them to use the vehicle. All three admitted to having been drinking but none of the trio admitted to who was driving the uninsured vehicle. They were transported back to the scene. Range 3 wrecker service was tasked with removing the vehicle. There was no access to the inside of it as the contents were wedged against it. The trio had escaped the partially open passenger window. Ricky Vernon owned Vernon Auto Electric and had just recently retired after being in business for almost 50-years. His shop contained thousands of dollars of test equipment, hundreds of alternators, starters, and generators, and a license plate collection of close to 2000 plates dating back to 1917 from all over the globe. Almost all the equipment was destroyed and the building suffered severe structural damage. Since none of the trio admitted to who the driver was no arrests were made. Montgomery County Deputies will turn it over to detectives to attempt to learn who was driving. It took close to 45-minutes to extricate the vehicle from the building. Sweet Gum Drive dead-ends into Live Oak. Whoever the driver was ran the stop sign and jumped the ditch before plowing through the chain-link fence and into the building.
